Beaujolais Nouveau - August 20th 2019 update

Burgundy and Beaujolais enjoy a great summer with a sunny and enjoyable weather.
The few rainfalls which occurred were welcomed as some areas were quite dry.
However, on Sunday 18th a hail storm with strong winds damaged the southern region of Beaujolais.
It was a particular violent storm which destroyed many grapes, however it is still difficult to estimate the crop loss, as the Beaujolais Nouveau is also produced in many other areas where the vineyards look great, the sugar levels are gradually increasing every day and the acidity levels are slowly dropping down.
The vineyards are healthy, the weather forecasts for the next days are good with a dry and sunny weather.
Today we still estimate that harvest could begin around September 10th.

End of this week we should have a better estimation of the crop loss in the areas damaged by hail and hence futur crop potential for the Beaujolais primeurs. We remain optimistic.
