156th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction

After 2 years of consecutive price increase, the Hospices de Beaune wine Auction dropped by 23% for the reds wines and 36% for the white wines.

The reason behind this drop is due to the buyers' profile. The majority of the bidders were the local and historical wine merchants, not much the private customers brought by Christie's. We all knew 2016 was excellent and wanted prices to come back to more reasonable levels.
Common sense has prevailed.

The total value of the Auction reached 7.7 million euros. It is very good for the Hospices de Beaune.
The President barrel was sold at 200 000 €.

Maison Joseph Drouhin remained active but also cautious with the prices and purchased the following lots:
-12 casks of Beaune Premier Cru cuvée Maurice Drouhin
-2 casks of Pommard Premier Cru cuvée Dames de la Charité
-2 casks of Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru cuvée Madeleine Collignon
-1 cask of Meursault Premier Cru Genevrières cuvée Philippe Le Bon
-1 cask of Meursault Premier Cru Charmes cuvée Albert Grivault
-2 casks of Meursault Premier Cru Genevrières cuvée Baudot
-1 cask of Beaune blanc Premier Cru Les Montrevenots cuvée Suzanne et Raymond
-1 cask of Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru cuvée Fouquerand

We will be very pleased to mature those barrels in our cellars.
